Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
“The traditional Christian education approach has been to teach Bible stories and hope that, over time, the child develops faith…the Catechesis takes the opposite approach. It recognizes that a child already has a relationship with God, and it looks at what particular aspects of God will nurture a child at a particular level.” – T. Gaestel, Dir. of Christian Education, Church of the Angels (Episcopal), Pasadena, CA.
Our Atria at ECR can accommodate a wide age range. That’s because at each age level, they come to the same material with a different ability to understand their meaning.
These first few weeks in the Atrium, the children are getting acquainted with the key areas in this beautiful space: the prayer table, the model altar, and items related to those places. We are reflecting on prayer, Psalm 23, the Bible itself, and the items used around the altar (chalice, paten, candles, purificator).
Stop by after the Eucharist on Sunday if you are interested in this space either for your child, or for yourself if you’d like to assist in the room during our Atrium time: 9:15am-11:15am on Sundays. Or email Kelly.
