Level II: 6-9 Years

Moral Formation

During Lent, we often turn to “moral formation” in the atrium. Following the cycle of the church year, we move through times of resting and growing with God and celebrating the life we share in and with our Heavenly King. Lent is a unique time when we consider not just who God is but who we are and how we will respond to God. Whether we read the Bible, spend quality time with friends and family, practice regular prayer or meditation, or simply move through our day with heightened awareness of God’s presence, we have the opportunity to grow and change. “Moral Formation” helps us to align our thoughts and actions with truth and goodness. What greater gift can we give our children?

Create a Prayer Space

Make a beautiful space for quiet personal prayer and joyful family gathering, and you may find more peace and gratitude amid difficulties.

  • Choose a place where a child can be quiet, not a busy or noisy area in the home.

  • Allow the children to choose and arrange the objects for the prayer area.

  • Avoid making it "perfect". Let it evolve.

  • Offer a real Bible (instead of a children's story Bible).

What Child Is This?

So capable and bright is the early elementary child. At age 6, we often see great changes in children as baby teeth fall out and baby-ish ways subside. Over the next few years, this child refines skills and ideas, often becoming an expert in a particular area. Many children at this age must work collaboratively, so we often see group work in the Level II atrium.
